Case study
Pharmaceutical manufacturer in the Midlands
EA Group was appointed to deliver a full turnkey multiple lane speed gate and balustrade installation for a manufacturer’s site in the Midlands. The project required a secure, compliant and visually clean entrance solution, installed over a heated floor without any mechanical fixings penetrating the substrate.
To meet the brief, EA Group designed and fabricated a bespoke ramped base system that supported the balustrade, protected the underfloor heating and created a smooth transition between the sliding door lobby and reception area.
About the client
Based in the Midlands, the client required a secure and efficient access control solution for a busy regional office. They needed to manage movement between the lobby and reception in the entrance area, while maintaining the clean, modern appearance of the space.
The challenge
The entrance floor area featured a continuous underfloor heating system embedded just below a thin screed layer which was then finished with porcelain tiles. This meant that any mechanical drilling or base fixings could have damaged the waterproofing, heating elements or floor structure.
EA Group had to install a secure and visually clean multiple lane speed gate and balustrade system that would define the transition between the sliding door lobby and reception, without penetrating the heated floor zone or damaging the floor structure.
Client objectives for the upgrade
- Deliver a full turnkey installation.
- Protect the underfloor heating and waterproofing system.
- Install the multiple lane speed gates and balustrade without mechanical fixings through the substrate.
- Integrate power and data for the office’s access control system.

The Solution
What EA Group did
EA Group developed a bespoke ramped base system fabricated from stainless steel. The system was designed to support the balustrade while distributing load evenly across the tiled surface, removing the need for mechanical fixings into the heated floor.
Each ramped base was engineered with integrated channels to receive the power and data required for the office’s access control system, which records time and attendance.
The Installation Process
PLANNING AND SITE REVIEW
EA Group reviewed the floor construction, heating system and access control requirements to develop a bespoke installation approach suited to the site.
INSTALLATION OF SPEED GATES
The multiple lane speed gates were carefully installed within the reception area to create secure and controlled access for staff and visitors.
SEAMLESS INTEGRATION
The balustrade was installed to clearly define the transition zone between the lobby and reception while maintaining an open and welcoming environment.
PRACTICAL ACCESS CONTROL SOLUTION
The completed installation delivered a clean, reliable, and practical access control solution designed to meet the demands of a busy office environment.
Key Challenges Overcome
Heated floor protection: the installation was completed without mechanical fixings penetrating the heated zone.
Bespoke base design: EA Group created a custom ramped base system that provided support, stability and a clean finish.
Access control integration: power and data channels were built into the base design to support the office’s access control system.

Results
The completed installation provided the office with a secure multiple lane speed gate and balustrade system, delivered without compromising the underfloor heating, waterproofing or tiled surface. The ramped bases created a subtle transition between the lobby and reception, while the finished balustrade appeared to float above the heated floor.
