Case study
Kensington Green, London
EA Group was appointed to upgrade four ageing barrier systems at Kensington Green, a prestigious residential development in London. The project involved replacing the existing barriers at the main entrance and car park access points with modern, fully compliant units, smoothly integrated into the estate’s existing ANPR and access control systems.
About the client
Kensington Green is a prestigious residential development in London, providing secure access for both residents and visitors. With multiple gated entrances and underground parking, the estate requires reliable, visually sympathetic access control systems that reflect its high standards.
The challenge
The estate’s four existing barrier systems, covering the main entrance and car park entrances, were ageing and no longer met the latest compliance requirements. The client needed replacements that would:
- Integrate seamlessly with their existing ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) and access control systems.
- Maintain uninterrupted access during installation.
- Meet strict aesthetic requirements, avoiding standard red or orange barrier cabinets that would clash with the estate’s surroundings
Client objectives for the upgrade
- Upgrade to modern, fully compliant barriers.
- Continue using existing ANPR-based access without interruption.
- Minimise disruption for residents and visitors.
- Deliver a solution that complements the site’s premium visual appearance.

The solution
What EA did
Following a competitive tender process, EA Group secured the project by offering:
· New, fully compliant barriers finished in RAL 7021 grey – a colour that harmonises with the site’s architecture.
- Bottom skirts added to the main entrance barriers for increased safety and compliance.
- Full integration with the estate’s existing ANPR and access control infrastructure, providing seamless day-to-day operation.
The installation process
Careful removal of existing systems
The project began with the safe and controlled removal of the four ageing barriers, making sure there was no disruption to normal access during this phase.
Installation of new barriers
EA Group installed four fully compliant barriers at the main entrance and car park access points, each finished in RAL 7021 grey to meet the site’s aesthetic standards.
Seamless system integration
The new barriers were fully integrated with Kensington Green’s existing ANPR and access control systems, enabling residents and visitors to continue using familiar access methods without interruption.
Efficient, low-disruption programme of works
A detailed schedule was developed for this live site, allowing all work to be carried out during normal working hours. This minimised inconvenience for residents and visitors while avoiding the extra cost of out-of-hours labour.
Key challenges overcome
Live site logistics: maintaining full access while works were underway.
Aesthetic requirements: delivering a compliant, strong, reliable barrier system in a colour that matched the estate’s visual standards.

Results
The upgraded barriers now provide Kensington Green with:
- Modern, compliant access control at all entry points
- A visually aligned installation in keeping with the estate’s high-quality environment
- Simple integration with existing systems, making sure residents and visitors experience no change in operation
