Case study

severn trent water, coventry

Severn Trent Coventry needed to update their access control system to boost security, improve efficiency, and to find a system that better integrated with their existing infrastructure. We were able to help, providing an advanced entrance solution that replaced the outdated system, offering access control tailored to Severn Trent’s needs.

About the client

Severn Trent Coventry is a key facility for Severn Trent Water, a leading provider of water and wastewater services in the UK. It’s important for the site to have effective, high-level security solutions in place, with their entry solution system playing a vital role in managing staff, visitors, and overall site security.

The challenge

issues with existing system

Severn Trent had been using a waist-height lane system for over a decade. When they wanted to upgrade, their system was no longer available for replacement parts, making it increasingly unreliable and costly to maintain.

Client objectives for the upgrade

Promote security with a more robust access control system that acts as a deterrent and risk mitigator.

Improve traffic flow for employees and visitors.

A system that offered integration with their existing access control infrastructure.

To upgrade to an entrance solution that had taller glass panels for added security.

The solution

What EA did

With years of experience in access control and entry solutions, we leveraged this expertise, providing a tailored system that met Severn Trent’s requirements. We installed the EA Swing HG Speed Gate, allowing Trent Water to experience the benefits of high-glass panels with enhanced security and deterrence, improved traffic flow, and seamless integration with existing ID card systems.

The installation process

We followed a 4-step process for installing Trent Water’s new high-glass speed gate:

removal of old system

The outdates system was carefully dismantled and disposed of

initial consultation and planning

EA assessed the site and devised a tailored solution

integration with existing infrastructure

We then successfully connected the new system to the existing underfloor cabling without issue

installation and testing

Trent Water’s new swing speed gate was installed over an 8-week period, ensuring full functionality and security compliance and support for Trent Water as they adjusted to their new solution.

Key challenges overcome

Legacy system compatibility: despite the old system’s unique setup, we were able to integrate the new speed gate with the existing underfloor cabling and access control systems.

Custom security requirements: Trent Water requested taller glass panels than the original system, which we successfully incorporated into the final design to meet their security requirements.
